Spotlight on deadly road

The Princes Highway between the Nungurner turn off and Bennet’s Brook has been in the spotlight lately, for all the wrong reasons.
There have been at least three accidents just in the past month on this section of the highway and the public are voicing their concerns at the condition of the road surface.
Not only is the road in parts rough with pot holes appearing regularly, but one concerned Lakes Entrance resident pointed out the whole chamber of the road does not allow water to drain off to the sides when it rains.
“There is no crown on the road to ensure drainage, the water just sits there,” he said.
“It is a disgraceful piece of engineering, years ago someone would have just fixed it.”
The rough and damaged section is on the overtaking lane where vehicles have been travelling at 100kph.
