If you see dumped rubbish, report it

The Office of the Conservation Regulator (OCR) is urging the community to report information on illegally dumped rubbish found in the Colquhoun State Forest.

Thousands of pieces of rubbish were illegally dumped along a 400 metre stretch of the Oil Bore Road in the Colquhoun State Forest, north west of Lakes Entrance earlier this month.

The rubbish, mostly recyclable materials, was reported by a member of the public, and cleaned up by forest and fire officers.

“It was very disappointing to see rubbish dumped in this area, particularly as there had been a recent major clean-up by the Bairnsdale Four-Wheel Drive Club and the forest was in a good, tidy condition,” Regional Compliance Manager, Peter Simpson, said.

“Someone may have seen something or knows who did this. So, we are urging members of the public to report what they know about this incident or any other illegal rubbish dumping activities.”

The OCR is now looking for any information on who dumped this rubbish and is asking the public to note the date, time, location and take a photograph, if safe to do, and report it.

For general littering in a state forest, fines of up to $6447.60 can be issued.

For aggravated littering, which includes the dumping of glass, metal, earth, crockery, animals and vehicles, fines of up to $9671.40 and/or one-month imprisonment could apply, under the Environment Protection Act.
