Last Thursday 35 local businesses operators gathered at Lakes Entrance Secondary College to participate in a speed networking session with 40 year 10 students from the school.

In year 10 students start to consider their future work options and make decisions about subject choices in their senior school years.

The aim of the event was to showcase career opportunities. The students learned about a variety of different jobs and gained experience in talking to potential employers.

The day commenced with a very informative presentation by the East Gippsland Shire human resource department about applying for jobs. The students gained an insight into resume writing, job applications, how to present at an interview etc.

The range of industry areas represented in the networking session included allied health, the arts, banking, the care industry, environmental sciences, trades, hospitality and regional health, East Gippsland Shire and local training and apprenticeship options.

“This is the third year Gippsland East LLEN, in partnership with Lakes Entrance Secondary College, has delivered this event,” Michele Fry, of Gippsland East LLEN, said.

“When approaching the business professionals each year we find that they are very supportive of the event and give up their valuable time to participate. We all really appreciate their efforts.”
