Support group

In response to the success of Gippsland Lakes Community Health’s (GLCH) ‘Pizza and Parenting’ men’s peer support group in Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance has welcomed its own version called ‘Parenting and Partnerships’.

Parenting and Partnerships is a non-intimidating space for men to share their stories and seek support in a non-judgemental environment. All men are invited to head along to chat and chill over a meal every Tuesday night from 5.30pm at the Gippsland Lakes Fisherman’s Club near Bullock Island in Lakes Entrance.

Facilitated by former school principal / teacher, John Kinniburgh, along with former alcohol and drug worker, Jeff Lyell, this peer support group is ideal for any male who is experiencing challenges or issues around family or relationships.

“It started off as a parenting group, but in the planning stages, John and I realised that when all relationships grow stronger, parenting is greatly improved; so we realised there’s no point in just trying to teach parenting skills alone,” Jeff said.

“Instead, we need to look at all relationships and all environments, and the way we as men respond to life’s trials.

“This a peer support group. John and I don’t come along as the experts, we simply help steer the group as its facilitators.

“There is no one type of man who should come along. Any and all men are welcome, particularly those who recognise a need in their life to change and grow.”

Parenting and Partnerships is held every week during the school term. To find out more phone John on 0409 551 517.
