Surfing a busy summer

Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance (SLSLE) has enjoyed a largely risk-free holiday period.
Patrolling Main and Eastern beaches from Boxing Day to Australia Day and continuing with weekend patrols until ANZAC Day, the club’s young patrol unit has been kept active as an influx of tourists and visitors flocked back to town following previous COVID interruptions and restrictions.
While, thankfully, there has been minimal life guard action required, the club is continuing to mould the next generation of lifesavers.
Last Sunday saw the culmination of this summer’s Nipper program with the next generation tackling wild and windy conditions on their final day.
SLSLE club captain, Lachlan Chester, said it has been an interesting season for the patrol teams.
“This season we have had five rescues for the summer. All of these have been due to people getting knocked off their feet in the shore-break and getting sucked out into the deep trough, where they cannot touch,” he said.
