Mixed weekend

The Melbourne Cup long weekend saw an influx of visitors to Lakes Entrance and surrounding towns, giving a boost to many businesses, but not all.
The surf shops were very popular with Gerry Lina from Sandbar Surf reporting a terrific weekend with a really good vibe.
“I pray we never have another lockdown,” he said.
“Although the shop was never really busy, we ended up showing very good figures.”
Surf Shack also said their figures were good for the entire weekend.
“It was quite busy and it was so good to be getting tourists back into our town,” owner Phil McEntee said.

Businesses around town reported a strong long weekend following the easing of COVID restrictions, however there does still appear to be some hesitancy in travel following a spike in COVID cases in East Gippsland.
