The pauper’s highway

Peter Camilleri has been having sleepless nights lately and decided to write to the Lakes Post to try and warn the community of the dangers of the Princes Highway.
“Recently I’ve been banging on about the trees overhanging the Princes Highway from Lakes Entrance through to Tostaree and my concern is that sooner or later someone will be leaving,” Peter said.
“So I decided to get on the round-a-bout and get to the end of the buck passing that has been going on for years as to who puts the brakes on clearing roadside vegetation, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) or VicRoads.
“I organised a roadside meeting with both parties with the VicRoads representatives arriving first and informing me, on witnessing the trees at hand, that they had no issues with the removal if it was okay with DELWP.
“DELWP arrived and said they too had no issues and it was VicRoads call and it was evident that both parties could see the trees had outlived their existence.
