Go east and get fresh

Go east and get fresh

You want it fresh? Then head east.

That’ s    the message being sent from the Go East – Roadtrip to Gippy initiative, organised by Gippsland Jersey founder and Warragul Farmers’ Market operator, Sallie Jones, and Melbourne Farmers’ Markets’ Miranda Sharp.

“We know East Gippsland has had a tough time recently, so we’ve put our heads together with locals and other farmers’ market people to see what we can do,” Miranda said.

“The response is loud and clear. The best thing we can all do right now is to go east and support East Gippslanders in all they’re doing to get back on track.

“So, we’re hitting the road and rails to do what we do best getting people together and putting on some markets. It’s a roadtrip.”

In Lakes Entrance (this Saturday), as well as Bruthen, and Marlo over three autumn weekends, you’ll find the freshest local food direct from the farmers, fishers, makers and bakers with everyone else who create great products.

“Think arts, craft, music and loads of things that make East Gippsland great,” Sallie said. “We’ve teamed up with local know-how, making it easy to plan your roadtrip with places to stay, things to do and easy ways to get there; whatever your style and however you travel.” This Saturday the Lakes Entrance esplanade foreshore will fill with the district’s finest produce and you can treat yourself with fresh seafood straight from the fishing boats on the market’ s doorstep.

On Sunday, March 8, it is Bruthen’s turn. Head towards the hills on the Great Alpine Road, the long weekend being perfect for exploring the area and filling your esky at the market gathering.

And finally, on Saturday, April 11, organisers are teaming up with the Marlo Primary School to make the annual Easter fete a ripper, adding a bumper crew of producers to the mix of family fun.

And keep an eye out when East Gippsland heads to Melbourne for a huge regional extravaganza later in autumn.

Keep up with details and find all the info you’ll need at Visit East Gippsland and Go East Facebook pages.
