Highway works progressing

Work by Regional Roads Victoria along several sections of the Princes Highway in Lakes Entrance continue to progress.

“We’re upgrading the Princes Highway in Lakes Entrance to improve safety and accessibility for all road users and to support local businesses,” Regional Roads Victoria regional director eastern, Sara Rhodes-Ward, said.

“The Victorian and Federal governments are investing $50 million to improve the Princes Highway between Sale and the New South Wales border, making travel in our region safer and simpler.

“Improvements at Lakes Entrance are providing a boost to the local economy by delivering better access to the foreshore and CBD for pedestrians, cyclists and those with mobility issues.”

On the Lakes Entrance foreshore between Carstairs Avenue and the slipway, improvements to the shared path and carparking are now complete. Solar lighting on this section will be completed in late 2020.

New solar powered street lighting on the walking path between Mechanics Street and the Slipway has also been completed and will guide pedestrians and cyclists along this popular seaside route.

Solar lighting on the section between the Bullock Island roundabout and Myer Street will be completed by late next year.

New and upgraded pedestrian crossing points have been completed between Carstairs Avenue and Bulmer Street, improving safety for locals and visitors. New pedestrian crossing points between Myer Street and Eastern Beach Road will be completed in mid 2020.

New pedestrian signals have been introduced at Barkes Avenue and Mechanics Street, with works currently underway on another set at Carpenter Street to be completed by Christmas.

Upgrading of the shopfront footpath between Carstairs Avenue and Carpenter Street will begin in the middle of next year, with footpath upgrades to be followed by upgrades to the road surface.

Carpenter Street to Myer Street parking, footpath and foreshore improvements will be completed in late 2020. This includes widening the shopfront footpath by two metres and construction of new car parking behind the shops by East Gippsland Shire Council.
