The Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust Fire Brigade is getting a special ultralight vehicle delivered soon.

Join the celebrations on Saturday, October 19, from 10am to 1pm at the Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust Fire Station at Rules Road.

When the district mechanical officer, Steve O’Shea, of District 11, acquired the vehicle, he was inspired to recognise the significance of this hard-working team by laminating the CFA ’ s commissioned aboriginal artwork, Working Together, on its bonnet.

The satellite brigade is led by a team of Gunaikurnai women and is the CFA ’ s only indigenous brigade founded and staffed entirely by indigenous Australians. The brigade protects more than 4,000 acres of beautiful Australian bush, more than 40 homes and creates positive change when it comes to fire safety in the community.

“The ultralight with the artwork is a good example of the CFA taking the initiative to express their values and recognition of Koori inclusion in the protection of the community. The vehicle is better equipped, has more room and looks fantastic,” firefighter, Charmaine Sellings, said.

In celebration of the hand over of the vehicle, there will be a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony with a very special guest.

Artist, Emma Bamblett, will give a talk about the meaning of the artwork that represents the CFA as an organisation and was selected as the branding of the CFA ’ s Koori Inclusion Action Plan (KIAP).

This open recruiting day will have activities for the kids and information about volunteering for the brigade or other brigades across the state.
