Brighter future for foreshore

Brighter future for foreshore

New light has been shed on the Lakes Entrance foreshore thanks to 300 metres of solar powered street lighting that was turned on recently.

Regional Roads Victoria (RRV) installed the overhead lights on the foreshore walking path between Mechanics Street and the slipway to guide pedestrians and cyclists along this popular seaside route.

The wireless lights are a first for RRV’s Eastern Region and feature innovative functionality that will allow the lights to be operated remotely. The lights form part of a multi-million-dollar package of improvements being rolled out in Lakes Entrance over the next two years that will improve safety, accessibility and amenity.

Other upgrades slated for the town include improvements to the Carpenter and Myer streets intersections and further pedestrian access improvements.

These works are funded under the Australian and Victorian Government’ s $50 million investment package to upgrade the Princes Highway between Sale and the New South Wales border.

East Gippsland Shire Council will manage and maintain the lights.

Lakes Entrance is one of Victoria’s most popular seaside holiday destinations and illuminating the foreshore will allow people to enjoy this prime location for more hours of the day.

“Investing in these new lights will boost visibility and allow people to more safely navigate a beautiful part of an iconic Victorian town,” RRV’s regional director eastern, Sara RhodesWard, said.

“We are trialling these solar powered lights and will check back with the community in a few months to see what they think prior to rolling out additional solar lighting along the foreshore between the Bullock Island roundabout and Myer Street.”
