Bustling Easter weekend

The Lions Club of Metung has a proud history of providing a luncheon feast on Easter Sunday, and April 21, starting at 11.30am, on Metung’s Village Green, it will be no different, as part of a busy Easter long weekend around the region.

The Metung Seafood Festival lunches comprise local fish, prawns, oysters, calamari and scallops served with chips and coleslaw.

Fish plates comprises flake, flathead tails, coleslaw and chips either grilled or battered.

The seafood plate includes scallops, calamari rings, fish, coleslaw and chips.

Organisers also provide a cooked prawn plate with coleslaw and chips.

Oysters are available along with wines and soft drinks. Band, Top Shelf, will entertain from the top of the Bairnsdale Advertiser big red bus.

Children’s activities include a bouncy castle, face painting and an Easter Bunny with a basket of Easter eggs.

All the funds raised support local schools, community groups and Lions projects.

If you are a bookworm, movie buff or just an avid bargain hunter, then head over to Patterson Park in Metung for the St John’s Anglican Church annual Easter Book Sale, which runs from April 20 to 22.

The team of dedicated volunteers have sorted, priced and packed dozens of boxes in readiness.

This year the Easter Book Sale is proving to be bigger and better than ever.

This book sale is a major fundraiser for the church. The church thanks all who have donated books, CDs DVDs, jigsaws and magazines and volunteered to house he books, collect and sort them.

The Maker’s Market at Lake Tyers Beach Hall on both Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 3pm is the perfect place for market lovers to find locally made artwork and produce from artists, makers, foodies and gardeners.

The Lakes Entrance Dry Regatta and afternoon market on Sunday promises to be an afternoon full of entertainment.

The 58th Metung Easter Regatta between Metung Yacht Club and Sandringham yacht clubs starts on Friday and ends on Monday. The weekend includes a variety of races and a barbecue night.

An Easter egg hunt will take place along the foreshore on Saturday at 1pm with the Easter Bunny making a special appearance. Registration is from 10am to 12.45pm on the day.

If you want to burn off some of that extra Easter energy, the Lakes Entrance parkrun is the ideal place to do so. The 5km runs begins at 8am at the Lakes Entrance Rotunda. Nowa Nowa’s annual Easter Monday fun run, the Mount Nowa Nowa Challenge has a variety of races ranging from the open 10km run to the child friendly ‘kid of the hill’ for under 10s.
