Construction begins on toilets

Construction has commenced on a new accessible toilet block at the popular Apex Park playground in Lakes Entrance.

The works includes a two-cubicle accessible toilet with additional junior pans in each cubicle for young users. The project is aiming for completion by the end of February, just in time for the busy long weekend in March.

Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said the new accessible toilets will be a great addition to Apex Park and the playground that is a popular destination for local families and visitors.

“The convenience of a toilet located near the playground means families don’t have to leave the site to access toilets and it is suitable for juniors,” Cr O’Connell said.

Council is undertaking the construction work in-house, with a budget of $90,000 allocated to build the new amenity.

Apex Park was significantly upgraded approximately two years ago with barbecues, shelters and playground equipment, which encourages nature-based and imaginative play.

The consultation undertaken with the community and the project’s community reference group, indicated that it would be ideal to include a new accessible toilet as stage two of the upgrade.

Works were delayed until after the busy summer season to reduce any impact on the playground and parking.

The Apex Park upgrade is part of Council’s ongoing commitment to Lakes Entrance and offers the community a vibrant and attractive play and meeting space at the major entry point to Lakes Entrance.
